Some commands are \nnot available in Windows XP and they are indicates with an asterisk (*).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> ACTIVE      &#8211; Mark the selected partition as active.<br \/>\n  ADD         &#8211; Add a mirror to a simple volume.<br \/>\n  ASSIGN      &#8211; Assign a drive letter or mount point to the selected volume.<br \/>\n  ATTRIBUTES  &#8211; Manipulate volume or disk attributes.*<br \/>\n  ATTACH      &#8211; Attaches a virtual disk file.*<br \/>\n  AUTOMOUNT   &#8211; Enable and disable automatic mounting of basic volumes.*<br \/>\n  BREAK       &#8211; Break a mirror set.<br \/>\n  CLEAN       &#8211; Clear the configuration information, or all information, off the\ndisk.<br \/>\nCOMPACT     &#8211; Attempts to reduce the physical size of the file.*<br \/>\nCONVERT     &#8211; Convert between different disk formats.<br \/>\nCREATE      &#8211; Create a volume, partition or virtual disk. (No virtual disk management in Windows XP.)<br \/>\nDELETE      &#8211; Delete an object.<br \/>\nDETAIL      &#8211; Provide details about an object.<br \/>\nDETACH      &#8211; Detaches a virtual disk file.*<br \/>\nEXIT        &#8211; Exit DiskPart.<br \/>\nEXTEND      &#8211; Extend a volume.<br \/>\nEXPAND      &#8211; Expands the maximum size available on a virtual disk.*<br \/>\nFILESYSTEMS &#8211; Display current and supported file systems on the volume.*<br \/>\nFORMAT      &#8211; Format the volume or partition.*<br \/>\nGPT         &#8211; Assign attributes to the selected GPT partition.*<br \/>\nHELP        &#8211; Display a list of commands.<br \/>\nIMPORT      &#8211; Import a disk group.<br \/>\nINACTIVE    &#8211; Mark the selected partition as inactive.<br \/>\nLIST        &#8211; Display a list of objects.<br \/>\nMERGE       &#8211; Merges a child disk with its parents.*<br \/>\nONLINE      &#8211; Online an object that is currently marked as offline.<br \/>\nOFFLINE     &#8211; Offline an object that is currently marked as online.<br \/>\nRECOVER     &#8211; Refreshes the state of all disks in the selected pack. \nAttempts recovery on disks in the invalid pack, and\nresynchronizes mirrored volumes and RAID5 volumes\nthat have stale plex or parity data.*<br \/>\nREM         &#8211; Does nothing. This is used to comment scripts.<br \/>\nREMOVE      &#8211; Remove a drive letter or mount point assignment.<br \/>\nREPAIR      &#8211; Repair a RAID-5 volume with a failed member.<br \/>\nRESCAN      &#8211; Rescan the computer looking for disks and volumes.<br \/>\nRETAIN      &#8211; Place a retained partition under a simple volume.<br \/>\nSAN         &#8211; Display or set the SAN policy for the currently booted OS.*<br \/>\nSELECT      &#8211; Shift the focus to an object.<br \/>\nSETID       &#8211; Change the partition type.*<br \/>\nSHRINK      &#8211; Reduce the size of the selected volume.*<br \/>\nUNIQUEID    &#8211; Displays or sets the GUID partition table (GPT) identifier or \nmaster boot record (MBR) signature of a disk.* <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*indicates a command missing from Windows XP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make a USB key bootable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This\n example applies to Windows Vista and Windows 7. Windows XP does not \nsupport using Diskpart on flash drives. Open a command prompt with \nadministrator rights and enter the following sequence of commands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n    diskpart<\/li><li> list disk<\/li><li>\n    select disk {<em>number<\/em>}\n<\/li><li>    clean<\/li><li>    create partition   primary<\/li><li>    select partition 1<\/li><li> active<\/li><li> format    fs=fat32 quick<\/li><li>    assign<\/li><li>exit<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In the &#8222;select disk&#8220; command, replace {<em>number<\/em>} with the drive number of your USB drive. <em>Take care to choose the correct number since this   procedure  erases everything on  the drive you select.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n format command given above will create a FAT32 file system. This \ncreates a bootable USB key that can be used for many purposes, once  \nappropriate files are added. For example, it can be used to install \nWindows 7 (if the flash drive is large enough). . If you wish to use the\n USB key to actually<em> run<\/em>\n Windows 7 or otherwise need  NTFS formatting, you will need to replace \n&#8222;format  fs=fat32&#8220; with &#8222;format fs=ntfs&#8220; and also modify the boot \nsector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diskpart command list The list of sub-commands for Diskpart are shown below.
